Zone Foods - What types of food?

Zone foods includes any source of low fat protein, monounsaturated fat and favorable low glycemic carbohydrates. Duck and pork are unfavorable protein as these food contain fat. Bread, pastas and other refined carb are also not encouraged as zone food. Saturated and poly-saturated fat like butter, cream, shortening etc. should also be avoided. For vegetarians, they can substitute meat protein with plant protein. Soy and soy products are good sources of plant protein.

On the Zone, it is recommended that 30% of your calories come from protein, 40% of your calories should come from carbohydrates and 30% of your calories should come from fat. Any dietary pattern catering to this ratio is safe, however, it is better to use follow some Zone program of your choice to get started than to start self medication.
